Sony Pictures is taking no chances with the Spider-Man reboot. We previously reported that the film, to be directed by 500 Days of Summer‘s Marc Webb, will indeed be in 3-D. Many upcoming films have been post-converted with 3D such as Clash of the Titans and Alice In Wonderland, but with Spider-Man they will be shooting with 3-D cameras. Who better to ask then the Avatar team? They brought this recent 3-D craze to forefront. MTV is reporting that Marc Webb recently met with James Cameron to discuss the technology they will be using:

“Last [week] we met the director of [the next ‘Spider-Man’ film],” Landau said. “[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3D, which they’ve announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible.”

Producer Jon Landau also echoed my sentiments about converting 3-D in post:

“Other movies are turning to it now, some of which I agree with, some of which I don’t agree with. ‘Clash of The Titans’ is coming out in 3D; they’re converting it very hastily into 3D. I’m not in favor if that,” Landau explained. “If you want to shoot a 3D movie, shoot it in 3D.”

The more time that has passed the more okay I am with Webb taking this on. I’m glad Sam Raimi has moved on to other things. Expect the cast to be announced quite soon. As for 3-D in Spider-Man, I’m all for it. After going on the theme park ride at Universal, Spider-Man was extremely fun in 3-D. I hope they can recreate the same feeling for the film.

Spider-Man will be released July 3rd, 2012.

What do you think of 3-D? Is it necessary for Spider-Man?
