After the announcement that Elite Squad actor Wagner Moura has booked his first big Hollywood role as a villain in Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 follow-up Elysium, we now have a set release date. With the confirmation it got picked up by Sony, they have scheduled it for a March 8, 2013. That is exactly two years from yesterday, for those counting. [THR]

While we don’t know much, it’s a Blade Runner-ish allegory set a century in the future (BR production designer Syd Mead is even working on it), it will star Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and Jodie Foster. Damon will play an ex-con and Moura will “play the film’s powerful villain, described as having a crazy sense of humor.”

The $120 million film will prep in April, and start production in July in Vancouver before moving to Mexico City in the fall.

Do you think this is a good release date for Blomkamp’s next film?
