Mandate Pictures must think 50/50 is really something special because, over 2 months before its release , they have already given the team behind the aforementioned movie the go ahead to make a film entitled Jamaica.
Returning are director Jonathan Levine, scriptwriter Will Reiser and co-star Rogen (who has signed on to produce with his Pineapple Express co-writer Evan Goldberg).
The story is based on a holiday that a 14-year old Reiser took to Jamaica with his grandmother and will be told in road trip form. There is no word on whether Rogen will decide to act in the project but I’d say it’s reasonably likely. [Variety]
Reiser on the project: “This is a story I’ve long wanted to tell, it’s something of a passion project for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to have found it a home at Mandate.”
50/50 is a dramedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a 27-year old cancer patient (Reiser, who wrote the script, is a surviving cancer patient himself) and the story tells of his struggles to beat it. It also stars Rogen, Anna Hendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Huston and Philip Baker Hall. It’s receiving considerable buzz at the moment and I think the comedic aspect of the movie will really help its sell/watch-ability. I’m not sure I’m ready for another drab, depressing film about terminal illness. It releases on September 30th, and will most likely be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall.
