Coming Soon reports that Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are looking to reunite in a film that will focus on the “mobster world.” Scorsese was asked about this during Saturday’s premiere of Shutter Island in Berlin, and this is what he had to say:
We’re working on something like that, but it’s from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff.
The team of Scorsese and De Niro is arguably the greatest director/actor relationship in the history of cinema. Back when they made films such as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, they were the most unstoppable duo of their time. Now, in the new century, Scorsese has continued that success with Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and his Oscar-winning The Departed, while De Niro has virtually fallen off of the acting map. He gave a solid turn in Everybody’s Fine, but the film as a whole fell rather flat. With De Niro joining Scorsese in this new film, it’s very possible that we could finally see that old-school De Niro performance we have all been waiting for.
Is there really anyone out there that doesn’t want to see this reteam happen?
