After a disappointing 2011 with Green Lantern and The Change-Up, Ryan Reynolds looks to be gaining some steam again with last year’s Safe House and this year’s The Croods becoming certified hits. He’ll attempt to capture the summer blockbuster crowd again with R.I.P.D. in a few months, but today we’ve got updates on two independent dramas the actor will be taking part in.
First up, Deadline reports that Reynolds is looking to team with The Fall director Tarsem for a new thriller titled Selfless. Coming from Carriers duo Alex and David Pastor, the plot will see the director back in The Cell territory, following a dying, rich old man who goes through a process to put his mind into a young man’s body. Reynolds will play the young man, who is actually dead, and he must solve his own murder case. As someone who has loved the visuals this director has brought to all of his projects, count us excited for the possibilities here.
But before that project gets underway, Reynolds has already begun shooting another thriller titled The Voices. Coming from Persepolis and Chicken with Plums co-director Marjane Satrapi, we’ve now got news of the ensemble, which will bring together Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick and last year’s Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver.
The Black List project, which is scripted by Paranormal Activity’s Michael R. Perry, follows Jerry Hickfang, a character who would be played by Reynolds, described as “a lovable but strange bathtub factory worker who yearns for the attention of a woman in accounting.” Our main character is then led down “a fantastical path that ultimately brings him to salvation” by his two talking pets. It sounds like quite a crazy concept and we can expect to see the results in 2014.
Are you looking forward to these two Reynolds projects?
