Dreamworks won the bidding war for a buddy cop comedy idea from Zombieland maestro Ruben Fleischer, who’s been hot with offers these days. Mike Arnold and Chris Poole are writing the screenplay, with Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Gavin Polone (Zombieland) set to produce. [THR via The Playlist]

The buddy cop sub-genre is in sad shape. If it’s not Showtime, it’s Rush Hour 3. And if it’s not Rush Hour 3, it’s something that sells itself as ambitious, like Cop Out, and goes down in flames.

Considering Fleischer was able to breath life into a zombie sub-genre beginning to drown itself, it’s safe to hope he could do the same for this sub-genre. But it’ll be no easy task.
