Yep, that adds up. Roland Emmerich, director of such hit blockbusters as 2012 and Independence Day (with his “Shakespeare was a hoax” movie Anonymous coming out this year. I know, strange), has been offered the director’s chair for Asteroids, Universal‘s big-budget adaptation of the famous video game in which gamers man a space ship that shoots down incoming asteroids.
Dense plotlines in the game is what it’s remembered for, making it an obvious treasure trove of narrative for studio Hollywood (sarcasm).
The project was announced back in 2009 via power producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, G.I. Joe, stuff like that). Matt “Race To Witch Mountain, Sorcerer’s Apprentice” Lopez provided the draft way back when.
Will Emmerich stay true to Lopez’s draft, which reportedly concerned two brothers dealing with brotherly love/hate during the chaos of asteroids?
Fingers crossed? [Vulture]
Asteroids movie? Yes? No? Why? Go!
