According to Deadline, Robert De Niro, who can be seen in theaters now in Neil Burger‘s Limitless, has been confirmed for a role in Jessy Terrero‘s upcoming cop drama Freelancers. At this point, Curtis Jackson is the only other confirmed star, though Forest Whitaker is said to be in talks to join De Niro and Jackson. The report describes the film’s synopsis as follows:

Jackson plays the son of a slain NYPD officer who, with his two best friends, joins the Police Academy. After graduating, he’s taken under the wing of his father’s former partner Captain Vic Sarcone (De Niro) in the ranks of Sarcone’s Street Vice Crime Task Force and he becomes part of Scarcone’s rogue task force.

The film, which will begin production on April 18 in New Orleans, was written by Philippe Casseus, and will be produced by Jackson, Randall Emmett, and George Furla. Rick Jackson, Jeff Rice, Fred Malmberg, and Daniel Wagner will serve as executive producers.

Currently, De Niro is working on a handful of projects, including Paul Weitz‘s Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, Garry Marshall‘s New Year’s Eve, and Red Lights, Rodrigo Cortes‘ follow-up to last year’s well-received Buried.
