The answer is 11. Only months ago, the defunct Miramax had left Julie Taymor‘s much-anticipated The Tempest in the dark. What should’ve been creative art-house (potential Oscar) fodder didn’t have a distributor or release date.

Now Touchstone is distributing on December 10th and we have a few production stills (two shown above) and an amazing poster (arguably the best of the year) to boot.

Form your own opinion below (via The Playlist):

How about Helen Mirren getting top billing all by herself?

The cast includes Mirren (playing Prospera, rather than Prospero as the original Shakespeare character was written for a man), Russell Brand (as Trinculo), David Strathairn (as Alonso), Alan Cumming (as Sebastian), Djimon Hounsou (as Caliban), Alfred Molina (Stephano), Chris Cooper (as Antonio) and Ben Whishaw (as Ariel).

It would seem moot to say that Mirren will grab a Best Actress nom as long as this film opens to more than a couple hundred screens before Academy voters have their say. It’d be nice to see Taymor get some love as well.

Do you like Taymor? Will you see The Tempest?
