24 Frames just broke the story that Park Chan-wook, the director behind 2003’s Oldboy, is set to make his English language debut with the film Stoker. Written by Wentworth Miller (the star of TV series Prison Break), the drama stars Carey Mulligan as a young woman dealing with the death of her father and the re-emergence of her eccentric (code word for “crazy”) uncle.

Like many people out there, I fell in love with Oldboy after watching it for the first time, and I’m excited to see if Chan-wook has what it takes to captivate a more mainstream audience. Having Mulligan, who’s quickly become one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood, as the lead will help nicely and the drama sounds like it could be Oscar-caliber intense. And who knew that Wentworth Miller was a budding screenwriter?!?

What do you think of Park Chan-wook’s choice for an English language debut?
