As we head into a month of compiling the best of 2018 in a variety of categories, one of our yearly favorites is an annual countdown from David Ehrlich. The IndieWire Senior Film Critic’s selection of 2018’s 25 best films is always an eclectic bunch, ranging from blockbusters to acclaimed arthouse features to a handful of movies that deserve a boost in this year-end conversation.
As was the case in previous years, it’s a moving, impeccably edited, and wildly entertaining celebration of the best cinema had to offer in 2018. With a good amount of the films currently available to stream, there’s something to discover for everyone. We won’t spoil any of the magic in this one–rest assured some of the best soundtracks of the year make their way on here in inventive ways–but one should note there are some third act Annihilation reveals throughout the introduction.
