We still have yet to see his major Hollywood breakout, but director Alan Taylor has already bagged what is likely one of the most sought-after gigs in the studio system. According to Variety, he’s currently in talks with Skydance Productions, Paramount and Annapurna Pictures for the upcoming fifth Terminator film.

There’s no details yet on what story this new Terminator will follow — or if Arnold Schwarzenegger will take part — but it’s said to be a reboot, embarking on the first film in a standalone trilogy.  There haven’t been many franchises deserving of a fifth entry (although Fast Five proved us wrong), so hopefully Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have crafted a worthy script.

Taylor, after working on such shows as Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men and The Sopranos, was snatched up by Marvel to helm Thor: The Dark World, which will be unveiled this November. The trailers for that film thus far haven’t set it far apart from other blockbusters of the ilk, but hopefully the helmer can create something worthwhile in both upcoming sci-fi sequels. In an interesting note, the report says Ang Lee, Rian Johnson and Denis Villeneuve were all considered for Terminator, but Taylor got the gig.

Terminator 5 opens on June 26th, 2015.

What do you think of the directing choice?
