Last summer, she battled Snow White after going to space in Prometheus and now Charlize Theron has taken another interesting career move, landing a major role in Seth MacFarlane‘s follow-up to his smash hit Ted. With that talking teddy bear comedy exceeding all expectations, a sequel that brings back Mark Wahlberg is gearing up for a shoot later in the year, but before that MacFarlane will tackle an original project.
Announced late last year, the film is described as a Blazing Saddles-esque comedy titled A Million Ways to Die in the West. Unlike Ted, MacFarlane will also get some face time as the lead, alongside Theron. The pitch, which reveals some new informations, follows “a sheepish farmer who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend leave him. When he meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot, the farmer at first sees a chance to win back his love but slowly falls for the woman. Complications ensue when the outlaw returns and reclaims his woman.”
In addition to hosting The Academy Awards, MacFarlane is taking quite the leap into Hollywood as of late. While his baby Family Guy and other shows have been successful for years, these developments see him step into a whole other field. While he doesn’t serve up my brand of comedy, perhaps the western setting could prove to be the trick. Production will begin this May for a likely 2014 release, so expect to see not one, but two MacFarlane films hit theaters that year.
