Around three years year to this exact date, Ridley Scott was kicking around the idea of directing Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio in a film surrounding the famous Gucci Italian family. As we know, the director has since found other films to occupy his time, but with a new update today, the film will see new life.
The Wrap reports that the Prometheus helmer has handed the project, simply titled Gucci, off to his daughter Jordan Scott, who previously directed the underseen period drama Cracks with Eva Green and Juno Temple. The helmer already has some major talent coming aboard, as Penelope Cruz has entered talks to star as Patrizia Reggiani, who went to prison in 1999 for killing her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci, whose grandfather founded the clothing company.
With an original draft from Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center), and other writers such as Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs) having a hand in the screenplay, hopefully this one gears up soon. Reportedly the company would like to “make a push to re-establish the brand as synonymous with Hollywood glamour,” so if it can produce anything like the Tom Ford-directed A Single Man, they would be headed in the right direction.
Do you think Cruz is a perfect fit for this project?
