Around two months ago, we didn’t even have a director for Jurassic Park 4, so it came with little surprise when Universal recently announced it would not make its June 2014 release date. With helmer Colin Trevorrow drafting a new version of the script with Derek Connolly, there were various reports that their ideas were perhaps too big to fit the current production timeline, so things were shut down and we haven’t heard anything since.

A new interview with franchise star Sam Neill has now popped up over at Dominion Post (via Collider), who seems to think that the fourth film in the series will be “a big reboot, a total re-jig.” While this doesn’t match up with previous comments from producer Frank Marshall (who said it would “definitely be a sequel”), it does link up with recent updates.

There was word that Bryce Dallas Howard and David Oyelowo had meetings for lead roles, but nothing regarding previous franchise players returning. We’ve also heard from various sources that the plot of this new film will feature Jurassic Park re-opened on Isla Nublar, mirroring Steven Spielberg‘s original film. With these casting rumors, we imagine the story could stay in the universe of the original trilogy, but simply be further down the timeline with new characters. With Universal still figuring out things behind the scenes, check back for updates as they come in.

Are you more or less interested in Jurassic Park 4 now that it may be a reboot?
