jake-gyllenhaal-1

With four films likely premiering (or already set for a release) this year, Jake Gyllenhaal has now found his next role. The Enemy star is set to join Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly for The Sisters Brothers, according to Variety. The latest film from Palme d’Or-winner Jacques Audiard (Dheepan, A Prophet, Rust and Bone), the neo-noir western is an adaptation of the novel by the same name from Patrick DeWitt, which centers on two brothers (Riley and Phoenix) who are hired to kill a man. This will be Audiard’s first full English-language film and as for Gyllenhaal, following last fall’s Nocturnal Animals, he’ll have LifeStrongerWildlife, and Okja all arriving this year.

oscar_isaacMeanwhile, another top Hollywood star, Oscar Isaac, has joined the cast of a new World War II thriller titled The Garbo Network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the espionage tale penned by William Wheeler is based on Juan Pujol Garcia, a real-life double agent who convinced both the Germans and British to hire him… despite having no formal covert or military training whatsoever. However, spoiler alert, his true allegiance was to the U.K., which led to a successful con to the Germans over the invasion of Normandy. There is no director currently attached to direct, but with Isaac’s attachment, we imagine one will come aboard quickly.

After wrapping production on his drama Blaze, a few more cast members have been revealed for Ethan Hawke‘s Blaze. Deadline reports that Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Wyatt Russell, Kris Kristofferson and Richard Linklater all took part in his country drama. Based on Living in the Woods in A Tree, the memoirs of Sybil Rosen‘s legendary song-writing career, the film also stars Ben DickeyAlia ShawkatCharlie SextonJosh Hamilton, alongside Hawke and Sybil Rosen himself.

elle-fanningLastly Screen Daily  has reported that Elle Fanning will star as aspiring pop artist in the directorial debut of Max Minghella (The Social Network). Cleverly titled Teen Spirit, the film centers on Fanning’s Violet, who grows up in a small European town with big dreams. After she meets an unlikely mentor, her aspirations soon seem more like goals than dreams. Minghella said of the casting,“It’s an absolute thrill to be collaborating with Elle on this project. Along with an extraordinary singing voice, she brings an emotional complexity to this character which is invaluable.”
