Clint Eastwood and Tom Hanks: American men of the big screen whose paths, after decades of divergence, are finally crossing; it only took a near-disaster to make it happen. Not long since the former signed to direct a film depicting both the public heroism and private struggle of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, Deadline tell us he’s found a star in the latter, who’s currently engaged in discussions with Warner Bros.

Not much is known about the project, save for the screenwriting input of Todd Komarnicki and its status as an adaptation of Sullenberger’s book Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters (written in conjunction with Jeffrey Zaslow). With regard to trajectory, personal angle, and its balance between background and accomplishment, descriptions of that sound fairly akin to American Sniper — though, of course, it’s always possible that this text is no more than a jumping-off point. I’m mostly just eager to see what Eastwood and Hanks will craft together.

Oh, and if I’m going to reference a Paul Greengrass film in the headline, I may as well point toward a Deadline story about that director’s next feature: a fifth Bourne film, which comes into the news as Julia Stiles signs to reprise her role of Nicky Parsons, a name I would not have remembered if all the tea in China depended on it. We don’t know anything save for whatever was said here, and I’m not going to pretend as if things are any different.

The film will open on July 29, 2016.
