A shorter, sci-fi-oriented preview for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has landed online, showing off more of a world that was only briefly glimpsed in all of the original film’s 142 minutes. The rest, however, is what you’ve seen before — Jennifer Lawrence‘s Katniss, having won the original games, is proving an influence the bureaucrats don’t like, and Donald Sutherland is enlisting the help of Philip Seymour Hoffman to clean up this whole mess. Menacing glances are exchanged alongside the plans.
Little of the titular games are being shown — it’s all saved until the end, more a tag than anything else — though burying that particular aspect ought to prove a wise strategy. We know they’re coming, anyway, so why give away the action? (It’s not as if the property’s a big gamble for Lionsgate, either.) More of this strange fascistic future (did you see that ship?), less archery and knife action, please.

Synopsis:
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Also starring Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, and newcomers Jena Malone, Amanda Plummer, Sam Claflin, and Jeffrey Wright, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will open on November 22.
