Director Neil Jordan (Interview with the Vampire, The Brave One) is to adapt Irish author Paul Murray‘s novel Skippy Dies, taking on writing duties as well as helming the film himself, reports Variety.
The novel, released early this year, is about the titular character Skippy (so named because of his resemblance of the kangaroo), a fourteen-year-old boy who is going through the trials of boarding school in Dublin. As the title suggests, the book is also about his death and takes in the before-and-after of his demise, focusing on various characters along the way. The story is said to be both comic and touching, with tender and dark moments, and has received wide critical acclaim since it’s release.
Jordan currently has two films already scheduled including an adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s novel The Graveyard Book and is currently filming the TV series The Borgias so where this will fit into that is up in the air for now.
Have you read Skippy Dies? Would Jordan be a good fit?
