We usually stray away from these superfluous pieces of “news,” but this was too good to pass up. The eccentric Michael Shannon, having recently been cast as the villain General Zod in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman film Man of Steel, has now opened up about the casting and the result is frankly amazing. /Film found the clip from the RiverRun International Film Festival, presumably after a screening of Take Shelter (pictured above).

Below you can see director Jeff Nichols talking with his Shotgun Stories and Shelter star about the casting process. Shannon’s tangent on the air conditioning during auditions may be my favorite part. Check it out below and read our Sundance review of Take Shelter, coming out later this year.

Man of Steel will hit theaters late 2012 with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner.
