I wish I was in the room when Tom Hardy signed on to the latest blockbuster from from McG. The actor, who broke out in Bronson, has gone on to excellent projects like Inception and more promising ones such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Wettest County in the World, not to mention the biggest film of 2012, The Dark Knight Rises. So why is he starring in a silly romantic action comedy from the director of Charlie’s Angels and Terminator: Salvation?

I can’t answer that question and the first trailer is even more puzzling. In This Means War, Hardy battles against fellow CIA operative Chris Pine over Reese Witherspoon. Full of cringe-worthy jokes, there seems to be zero chemistry with our female lead and these two actors. Let me know if you agree by checking out the trailer below.

Synopsis:

The world’s deadliest CIA operatives are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman. Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis ever – each other.

This Means War hits theaters February 17th, 2012.
