On the heels of Cahiers du cinéma’s top 10 films of the year, the National Board of Review has now revealed their picks for the best of the year, topped by Kenneth Lonergan‘s Manchester by the Sea. Martin Scorsese‘s Silence was also screened to the voting body and it picked up Best Adapted Screenplay, along with being included as one of the top 10 films of the year. Best Director went to Barry Jenkins for Moonlight, while The Salesman was awarded Best Foreign Language Film and O.J.: Made in America the Best Documentary nod.
For those unfamiliar with the organization, which has been running for 107 years, the National Board of Review “has dedicated its efforts to the support of domestic and foreign cinema as both art and entertainment. This year, over 250 films (studio, independent, foreign-language, animated, and documentary) were viewed by this select group of film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, academics, and students.”
