No, this has nothing to do with Brett Ratner‘s X-Men film.

Korean director Kim Ji-Woon is responsible for A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life, The Good, The Bad, and the Weird and the ultra-violent flick that just showed at TIFF, I Saw Devil. Latino Review is reporting he has lined up his first American directing gig.

He will direct Last Stand, which was on the 2009 Black List. Written by Andrew Knauer, it tells the story “described as having shades of Gone in 60 Seconds and High Noon, that features a Gumpert Apollo, a race car used by drug smugglers, and it centers on a cartel leader that uses it to break out of a courthouse. As he speeds to the Mexican border, the only thing standing in his way is a border-town sheriff and his inexperienced staff.”

The script sold for a low six figures to Lionsgate last November. I can’t wait to check out The Good, The Bad, and the Weird as its on the top of my Netflix Queue. I’ve seen parts of Bittersweet and Two Sisters, each excellent. This sounds like a great project and I hope Lionsgate lets him have control, knowing them it shouldn’t be a problem.

Lorenzo DiBonaventura will produce for a spring 2011 shoot.

Are you a fan of his work? Is this a good project for his first US gig?
