A few weeks ago, word hit that Kathryn Bigelow turned down the Spiderman reboot in order to direct Triple Frontier. Now, First Showing brings us further reassurance and reports that Bigelow plans to shoot the action-adventure story in 2011. Triple Frontier will be located in the border z0ne between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, but thankfully (because of The Hurt Locker), Bigelow is no stranger to warm weather.
The report also suggests some shaky rumors that Denzel Washington, Sean Penn, and Javier Bardem could possibly star in the film. Whether or not those rumors are legitimate or not seems to be unknown, but with the team Bigelow already has, it’s tough to find an area where Triple Frontier might go wrong.
Not only is she reuniting with Mark Boal, the Oscar-winning scribe of The Hurt Locker, but she also has Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) on board to produce. Triple Frontier, being a film about the drug trade, has (not surprisingly) been compared to Steven Soderbergh‘s Oscar-winning Traffic.
Do you think Triple Frontier will put Bigelow and Boal back in the Oscar game?
