Jackass mastermind Johnny Knoxville and comedian/actor Patton Oswalt have signed on for a new comedy to be directed by Todd Rohal, whose last movie The Catechism Cataclysm debuted earlier this year at Sundance and we quite liked. The two stars will be playing brothers who are constantly at odds, but in order to honor their late father, decide to team up to take a scout troop of boys out on a camping trip. [Deadline]
I assume all sorts of hijinks ensue a la Bushwhacked! but unfortunately with less Daniel Stern. Rob Riggle, Patrice O’Neal, and Maura Tierney make up the rest of the announced cast and production on the movie, which Rohal also wrote, begins this week. There’s no official title yet, although the script called it Scout Master, which isn’t the worst title in the world so it could retain that name once its released. Big Beach Films, whose latest movie Our Idiot Brother opens this Friday in theaters, will be handling financing and David Gordon Green is acting as executive producer.
In all due honesty, this movie sounds like something that would be cooked up by the “masterminds” over at Happy Madison, so I’m not too excited about this. But there’s no denying Oswalt is a funny man and Knoxville does have some talent people seem to forget due to his Jackass roots, so maybe there’s potential here I’m just not seeing. I just really hope it doesn’t come off as terrible as the premise sounds. Fingers crossed.
Does this movie sound like a recipe for comedic gold to you? And if you’ve seen The Catechism Cataclysm, how would you define Rohal’s style of humor?
