As a project is in various stages of development, its not peculiar to see a great deal of directorial shifts. We saw the most uncommon example recently with Jane Got a Gun, but now a more standard adjustment has occurred over at MGM and Paramount with their remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson vehicle Death Wish.

Originally set to be directed by Narc and The Grey‘s Joe Carnahan, the helmer split late last month over some creative differences (most notably a reported disagreement on who should lead the film), but now Variety reports that Miss Bala director Gerardo Naranjo is stepping in. There’s no telling who the new lead will be, but the studio was rumored to want Bruce Willis and they’ve also considered Brad Pitt and Will Smith.

As much as I enjoyed Carnahan’s last effort, Naranjo is a major step above in my book. Miss Bala was an extraordinarily directed, intense drama and I’ve been waiting to see him break out in Hollywood. He also has the The Mountain Between Us lined up with Michael Fassbender set to star, so we’ll have to see which one will come first.

Are you looking forward to this director taking on Death Wish?
