With Universal just scheduling a prime summer release date for the buddy action comedy R.I.P.D. we have learned of another actor who might join the cast. With Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds already confirmed, director Robert Schwentke may be re-teaming with his Flightplan star Jodie Foster, Bloody Disgusting reports.

R.I.P.D. is adapted by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash of the Titans, Aeon Flux) and based on Peter Lenkov‘s (24, Demolition Man) 2000 Dark Horse comic. It tells the story of the Rest In Peace Department, the afterlife’s arm of the law. The central character of the comic book is Nick Cruz (Reynolds), a recently-murdered police officer who has joined the R.I.P.D. to find out the identity of his killer and make his way into heaven. Unfortunately that isn’t so straightforward and Cruz finds himself with a jaded ex-gunslinger (Bridges) for a partner while working for the man upstairs, pursuing all kinds of demonic creatures.

The studio is “highly interested” in the Foster for the role of Proctor, but she would need to figure our her schedule with Neill Blomkamp‘s District 9 follow-up Elysium, also gearing up for production. She recently directed and starred in Mel Gibson‘s return The Beaver, but that drama is struggling at the domestic box office and has yet to cross the $1 million mark. She will next be seeing in Roman Polanski‘s highly anticipated Carnage alongside Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz, and John C. Reilly. Expect to see it by the end of the year and check out an early poster for R.I.P.D. below via STYD.

R.I.P.D. hits theaters June 28th, 2013.

Do you think this is a good project for Foster to join?
