By the time the majority of today’s films are released, one can easily glean in the ins and outs of nearly every facet of production. But there was a time where such information was not readily available and 45 years later, a certain masterpiece remains endlessly fascinating. Stanley Kubrick‘s landmark sci-fi 2001: A Space Odyssey has been analyzed and dissected since its release in 1968 and today brings yet another document recounting its production.

Out of print for some time now, Jerome Angel‘s 1970 novel The Making of Kubrick’s 2001 has now resurfaced in digital form. Beginning with a February 21st, 1965 press release revealing the then-titled Journey Beyond The Stars, the book goes through the entire production and release, ending with a newspaper clipping of “repeaters” at the box-office.
