A surprise addition to the fall release calendar (and A24’s packed slate) is the latest film from Krisha and It Comes at Night director Trey Edward Shults. Following an enthusiastic response at Telluride and set for TIFF, Waves is a South Florida-set drama starring Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Lucas Hedges, Taylor Russell, Alexa Demie, with Renée Elise Goldsberry and Sterling K. Brown.

Ahead of a November release, A24 has dropped the gorgeous first trailer, which prominently features Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed” from his beautiful album Blonde. Telling the story of a suburban African-American family, with a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, this looks like a deeply emotional, one-of-a-kind experience. See the trailer below.

Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida, and featuring an astonishing ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family—led by a well-intentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss. From acclaimed director Trey Edward Shults, Waves is a heartrending story about the universal capacity for compassion and growth even in the darkest of times.

Waves opens on November 1.
