After delivering the overlooked Burning Man, director Jonathan Teplitzky has crafted a film that has arrived with a bit more attention after premiering at Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend. Debuting to mostly strong reviews, The Railway Man pairs Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, and today our first look at footage has arrived.
Coming from the U.K., where the film will land on January 3rd, the trailer introduces our story, which is based on the life of Eric Lomax (Firth, but played by War Horse‘s Jeremy Irvine in flashback scenes), a man who found himself the victim of torture on the part of interrogators in a Japanese POW camp during World War II. After years of haunted memories, his wife, Patti (Kidman), staged a reunion with one of his captors, played by Hiroyuki Sanada. Stellan Skarsgård rounds out the cast as one of Lomax’s friends from the war and one can see the promising first trailer below for the film that doesn’t have U.S. distribution yet.
Update: Check out the first poster for the U.K., where it opens in January.
