When Conan O’Brien got pushed out of The Tonight Show many people were talking of Conan possibly hitting the big screen. Your wish has come true, but not quite the the form you may expect.

Deadline reports that Media Rights Capital is interested in financing a documentary feature for Conan O’Brien‘s 30-city comedy/music tour, titled The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour. The tour was created in part of keep 40 of his staff members employed. Deadline puts it nicely:

Considering that the staffers uprooted their families and pulled their kids out of schools in New York, moved them across the country only to see NBC end Conan’s Tonight Show run after seven months, they deserve whatever extra love they can get until O’Brien resurfaces behind a desk for another network.

Rodman Flender, who directed Idle Hands as well as a number of TV shows from The O.C. to Ugly Betty, is in talks to direct the doc. This film will evade the terms of O’Brien’s departure of NBC, part of his $33 million severance package to vacate the Tonight Show hosting chair and stay off the air until the fall.
