Everything Must Go, a drama starring Will Ferrell, made its premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival (read Jordan’s review here) and since then not much has been said about it. Well expect that to change later this year; Roadside Attractions, who picked up the film for distribution, has scheduled the movie for a limited run starting May 6th. [Box Office Mojo]
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the flick, it centers around a recovering alcoholic who finds himself falling off the wagon after losing his wife, job, and home. With nothing left to lose, he decides to sell his belongings on his front lawn, hoping that letting go of his past will lead to a better future. Rebecca Hill co-stars as his neighbor and the movie is directed by Dan Rush. Everything Must Go is based off the short story Why Don’t You Dance? by Raymond Carver.
I was looking for a trailer, but unfortunately came up short. However, I can tell you that from what I’ve read, it looks like it may Ferrell’s best work to date on the dramatic side. Alright, that’s not saying much since he doesn’t do much drama but still that’s got to count for something, I think.
Have you seen Everything Must Go and if you did, did you like it? If not, what do you think of Will Ferrell branching out to a more dramatic role instead of continually playing it safe?
