From Deadline, word has come in that the Elizabeth Banks-led Little Accidents — first told of in June, then called Love & Mercy — has begun production, the actress and Boyd Holbrook joined in their endeavor by Chloë Sevigny and Jacob Lofland (Mud). At that time, writer-director Sara Colangelo‘s feature debut was said to follow “a woman whose life spirals downward after a town is left devastated following a mining accident that kills 12 men and finds her son missing”; the new summary, however, puts greater emphasis over the boy’s disappearance — making it sound like a separate, if connected occurrence — and fills in the rest of its occurrences with a Twin Peaks-esque (or Top of the Lake-ish) ripple effect the small town experiences as a result. Not what the initial description would’ve suggested, but perhaps better for that.
Archer Gray Productions, TideRock Media, and Summer Shelton are producing Little Accidents.
More casts fill out, and Deadline have more news. Next up, Ray Liotta‘s name has been added to Kill the Messenger, which is already led by the talents of Jeremy Renner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Barry Pepper, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Detailed here, this fact-based drama — as scripted by Parkland helmer Peter Landesman — centers on the trials of a journalist, Gary Webb, who had committed suicide after a smear campaign by the CIA ruined his professional career.
Liotta‘s role takes an interesting angle, thus: that of a former agent who informs Webb his shocking information about the Iran-Contra affair — and the CIA’s covered-up, drug-related involvement — is, in fact, true. His addition is part of a dual development-production process, as Michael Cuesta (Homeland) is already shooting.
Finally, the outlet have also been told that Jeremy Piven has come aboard a big production very late in the game. Although signs would’ve pointed toward Doug Liman‘s Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt — yes, this did use to have the awful title All You Need Is Kill — being wrapped, a set of (planned) reshoots are underway. Now, it’ll feature the Entourage star as Col. Walter Marx, whoever that may be in WB’s Groundhog Day-meets-Aliens actioner.
Edge of Tomorrow will open on June 6, 2014.
