2014’s going to be a busy year for the Marvel slate. The The Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are already in the early stages of production following the Iron-Man and Thor sequels. Now it looks like Edgar Wright‘s long-awaited Ant-Man film could finally be on its way to the big screen as early as two years from now.
After some rumors hinting as such, Latino Review reports that Marvel plans to have Ant-Man take over their London production branch after Thor: The Dark World finishes principal photography (likely early next year). If they manage to pull this one off, it would allow Ant-Man to slide neatly into place in the 2014 slot and would add a new in-continuity film to the phase 2 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now this would also mean that Wright‘s next project, The World’s End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, would need to go into production pretty quickly (as it plans to) if Marvel wants him to get cracking on Ant-Man next year. But then, this is all still speculation since Marvel and Disney have not yet made a full announcement detailing production start date, etc. A recent status from Pegg says that World’s End‘s principal photography start time should be around September so it’s not all that implausible to think that the finale to The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’s post-production could overlap with pre-production for Ant-Man. Hopefully, we’ll find out more details soon.
