It’s been well-documented that the next feature film for Niels Arden Oplev, director of the supremely successful Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, will be The Last Photograph, an Afghanistan-set drama that’s already drawn consideration from big names such as Christian Bale and Sean Penn.

However, as production on The Last Photograph isn’t set to begin until 2012, it’s possible that Oplev could sneak in another project beforehand. Whether or not he is planning to do that is still up in the air, but it has been confirmed that he is now in negotiations to direct a second pending project — Game Theory. [Deadline]

The film is based on a screenplay from Michael Alan Lerner, and it “centers on a college professor and game theorist who gets sucked into a large-scale global crisis.” Among the film’s producers are Alex Goldstone and Adam Shulman of Anonymous Content.

The film will be distributed by Summit Entertainment and Participant Media. It should be interesting to see how Oplev and company plan to schedule the production of these two films, but regardless of which order they are made in, I’m eager to see how he’ll follow up his impressive Dragon Tattoo.

Which of Oplev’s upcoming projects are you most looking forward to?
