If you’ve been on a computer for the last decade, then you know how Napster changed the music industry seemingly overnight. While the technology has been chronicled in countless articles, we got a glimpse of its effects in The Social Network, but now a documentary has landed dissecting the phenomenon. Alex Winter, famously Bill of Bill & Ted, but also an accomplished writer/director, was planning a feature narrative film based around the events, but as reported last year he has shifted to documentary form (likely because of an aforementioned film — no, not Bill & Ted) and we’ve got the first trailer today. Linking up with VH1, who were behind the 2008 documentary Anvil!: The Story of Anvil, it looks to be a comprehensive look at Shawn Fanning‘s work and the many ripple effects. Check out the trailer below thanks to AICN for the film we expect to pop up on the festival circuit next year.
Downloaded is aiming for a 2013 release.
