Denis Leary has entered negotiations to join the cast of the Spider Man reboot directed by Marc Webb [Heat Vision]. Should he sign on, he will be playing police captain George Stacy, the father of Gwen (Emma Stone) who will be Peter Parker’s (Andrew Garfield) love interest. According to the article, and probably any hardcore Marvel fanboy, George Stacy frequently crosses paths with the webslinger and his untimely end at the hands of Doctor Octopus sets in motion Gwen’s hatred of the superhero.

I think that’s a pretty damn good choice; Leary has absolutely killed it through out his run on FX’s Rescue Me and he’s due for a hit movie that doesn’t involve him voicing a sabretooth tiger in a lackluster children’s franchise (as Diego in the Ice Age series). Here’s the current cast list for Spider Man, due out June 2012:

  • Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider Man
  • Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
  • Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard
  • Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
  • Sally Field as Aunt May
  • Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy

What do you think of Denis Leary and will he make a good George Stacy?
