IGN.com premiered the restricted (red band) trailer for David Gordon Green‘s Pineapple Express follow-up Your Highness starring Danny McBride, James Franco, and Natalie Portman. I hope you’re old enough kids, because you’re going to need to enter your birthdate to check it out and obviously everyone on the Internet tells the truth so there’s no way around it. Check it out below and see our own Nick Newman’s write-up from New York Comic-Con here.
I know it’s kind of a dumb thing to nit pick right out of the gate, but this trailer felt like it was NEVER going to end. At nearly four minutes, it seemed like it was trying to do two things: sell the comedy and sell the action. The thing is while the action was cool for a medieval fantasy, the comedy…well the comedy wasn’t that original. Sure it’s going to be funny because Danny McBride is absolutely hilarious (doubters need to watch Eastbound and Down), but the jokes stemmed from swearing or making 2010 jokes in an earlier century. Oh, and the weed jokes are prevalent too (obviously, if you noticed the title) and I’m sure some people will think it’s great, but I’m getting sick of constant “it’s funny when we smoke pot” jokes. I get America, you like weed, let’s move on now. If you can’t tell, I’m not completely sold on Your Highness quite yet, but if they can balance the easy humor with some actual clever humor and throw in some sweet fantasy fight sequences, then I’ll probably end up singing a different tune. And obviously that’s all the filmmakers care about; making me and me alone happy.
Your Highness comes out April 8, 2011.
What do you think of the trailer? Did you like Pineapple Express?
