Timed with the first domestic trailer for Apichatpong Weerasethakul‘s Cannes Palme d’Or winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Lives, comes news of his possible next feature. Screen Daily (via The Playlist) is reporting it will be titled Mekong Hotel. Digging up some more information, it is a long-rumored film with Tilda Swinton attached, that “address the relationship between man and water, the catastrophic flooding which is blamed on Chinese dams and diseases spread by industrial-scale pig farming.” While little details are available, we will update as more come in.
While I didn’t quite like Uncle Boonmee, Raffi Asdourian gave it a positive review at the New York Film Festival last year. it certainly has a unique vision, but I found it to be too meandering and ultimately got very little out of the experience. Nonetheless, it is coming to limited theaters this March and we have our first domestic trailer via Apple. Check it out below.
Synopsis: Suffering from acute kidney failure, Uncle Boonmee has chosen to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones in the countryside. Surprisingly, the ghost of his deceased wife appears to care for him, and his long lost son returns home in a non-human form. Contemplating the reasons for his illness, Boonmee treks through the jungle with his family to a mysterious hilltop cave – the birthplace of his first life…
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Lives hits limited theaters on March 2nd, 2011.
