With his excellent crime drama Killing Them Softly hitting theaters in less than a week, we’ve finally got confirmation on what Andrew Dominik will be helming next. The director told The Playlist in a recent interview that his next project will be the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde. “It’s about her whole life, it starts when she’s seven and it ends when she dies,” Dominik says. On his influences for the film, he said, “It’s sort of a Polanski descent-into-madness-type movie. It’s about this orphan girl who gets lost in the woods.”
Blonde will be based on the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award nominated novel by Joyce Carol Oates and was originally slated for production before Killing Them Softly. Naomi Watts (King Kong, The Impossible) was confirmed as being onboard to play the late legend, but not much has been reported about the film since Brad Pitt announced during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, that his production company Plan B would be producing the film. Since her death in 1962, more than 600 books have written about the icon and she had acted in 31 films. The last release about the notorious blonde was My Week With Marilyn, so there’s much room for improvement when it comes to Dominik’s take, which is set to roll next year.
Are you looking forward to Dominik’s biopic?
