One upcoming adaptation that seems so ambitious that no matter how it turns out, it will be a spectacle to behold, is the next film from Dark City director Alex Proyas. He is tackling an adaptation of John Milton‘s epic poem of Heaven and Hell, Paradise Lost, with Bradley Cooper starring as Lucifer. It was revealed earlier this week that the film would be done in motion capture with an extensive production schedule. We now have our first official piece of concept art, which looks like Cooper rendered as his character. Check it out above via Legendary’s blog. /Film has a good wrap-up of the Comic-Con presentation, but I’ll just include this quote below, as well as a few more pics of concept art snapped by Cinema Blend.

“We’re going to make an incredible epic film about the Devil’s fall from grace and the Archangel Michael. Adam and Eve play heavily in it as well. This film couldn’t have been made a few years ago. In fact, we’re not even sure we can make it now. But we’re gonna try.”

Paradise Lost is aiming for a late 2013 release.

What do you think about this first concept art? Can you see a project like this succeeding?
