Fresh off his turn in Woody Allen‘s much-praised Blue Jasmine, Deadline have been informed that Alec Baldwin will soon clear the schedule for another actor-helmer reunion — this time with Cameron Crowe, his Elizabethtown director currently in the midst of preparing a new, untitled feature. But, as is the cast with essentially all of his soon-to-be-fellow co-stars — Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, and Danny McBride, thus far — we can’t claim to know the extent of the role or, to that end, how it figures into whatever narrative is being spun.
But early reports have indicated that Crowe will crack open an old script, Deep Tiki, centered on a military contractor (Cooper) who’s asked to launch a military satellite over Hawaii — a task which requires him to work alongside a liaison (likely Stone) tasked with obtaining approval from the island’s spiritual leaders. Might Baldwin resume the quick, authoritarian role that the writer-director had bestowed him with in Elizabethtown all those years ago? It remains to be seen.
Expect Crowe and co. to begin production within the next couple of months.
Despite a lack of proper details, does Baldwin strike you as a wise fit for the project?
