After his last few projects — I’m looking at you Jack and Jill — I wish Adam Sandler would take a second look at the projects he chooses to involve himself in. But alas, Vulture has just informed us that the actor is currently in talks to join Will Ferrell in Three Mississippi, the comedy from 30 Rock and Friends executive producers Robert Carlock and Scott Silveri.
We got word about this project — which was once titled Turkey Bowl — almost a year ago, back when Mark Wahlberg was set to star alongside Ferrell, and Adam McKay was set to direct. However, after almost a year of no news whatsoever, this project has taken several creative turns. McKay was replaced by Hot Tub Time Machine duo John Morrison and Sean Anders, who will rewrite and direct the newfangled project, respectively.
Now, due to scheduling conflicts with Wahlberg‘s latest Lone Survivor (from Battleship director Peter Berg), it would seem that Three Mississippi just can’t happen for the Oscar-nominated actor. With Warner Bros. set to shoot the film in the fall, we’re guessing Ferrell didn’t want to wait for Wahlberg to shoot the project; so, insert one Sandler. He’s set to take Wahlberg‘s place in the film, which is about “two rival families who have an annual tackle football game at Thanksgiving — with one family the perennial loser.”
Alec Baldwin was set to play Walhberg‘s dad in the film, but there’s no word if he’s staying on with Sandler in the role. Even though Hot Tub Time Machine was surprisingly funny, I can’t say I’m excited for this project now that Sandler‘s involved. This comedic combo just doesn’t seem nearly as enticing.
What are your thoughts on Sandler replacing Wahlberg for Three Mississippi?
