Recently celebrating its 55th anniversary, Some Like It Hot is easily near the top of the pile when it comes Billy Wilder‘s many classics. Yes, it’s slotted highest on AFI’s best comedy list, nominated for a bevy of an Oscars (and won one), etc., but more importantly, it doesn’t take its audience for granted, unlike most comedies nowadays, resulting in a wickedly smart and funny farce.
Led by Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon as two musicians who find themselves amongst an all-female band, the film recently got restored and is heading into U.K. theaters next month. For the occasion we’ve got a new poster (via Empire) and trailer for the re-release. Hopefully the same plans are underway here in the United States and one can check out both items below.
When Chicago musicians Joe and Jerry accidentally witness a gangland shooting, they quickly board a southbound train to Florida disguised as Josephine and Daphne, the two newest – and homeliest – members of an all-girl jazz band. their cover is perfect… until a lovelorn singer falls for “Josephine”, an ancient playboy falls for “Daphne”, and a mob boss, who refuses to fall for their hoax, wants them put on ice for good!
Some Like It Hot hits U.K. theaters on July 18th.
