You won’t even have to wait two years to see another Smurfs. That’s right, a sequel has already been given a release date of August 2nd, 2013. Raja Gosnell‘s family hit has already grossed over $130 million worldwide since hitting theaters a few weeks ago. Expect the cast of Hank Azaria, Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, and Neil Patrick Harris to return. If our review was any indication, it was middling film that wasn’t as bad as to be expected. There is nothing currently scheduled for August 2013, only Thor 2 on its tails a week before.

In more exciting release date news Paramount has set a December 21st, 2012 release for its zombie apocalypse film World War Z. Marc Forster directs the adaptation of Max Brooks‘ novel which stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, and Matthew Fox (despite contrary reports). It makes for a packed December, even with Man of Steel moving to June. There is Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey a week before, while Phillip Noyce‘s Hunter Killer, Ang Lee‘s Life of Pi, and Gore Verbinski‘s Lone Ranger all on the same day. Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained hits a few days later. While you wait, check out new set photos from the currently shooting film over at Latino Review.

Is this a good fit for World War Z? Will you see The Smurfs 2?
