While his stark sensibilities have fit the world of Game of Thrones as of late, director Neil Marshall has been trying to decide what he’ll make for his next feature-length film effort. After circling no less than five projects, it looks like he has settled on one — uninspiringly, a remake of film released just a few years ago.

According to Deadline, The Descent director will rewrite and direct a remake of the Norwegian hit Troll Hunter. Christopher Columbus quickly snatched up the rights to André Øvredal’s funny, entertaining monster movie not long after it hit screens and now things are moving fast on this new version, which is set to begin shooting in early 2014, in part so they won’t have to use any fake snow on location.

Budgeted at around $25 million — a fitting price tag considering the small-scale, yet immersive nature of the original — reports indicate that a search is underway soon for the male lead and those involved “are looking for a star not normally associated with the genre.” As a major fan of the first film, I believe it holds up wonderfully to English speakers, but hopefully they at least craft something fun here, and Marshall doesn’t lose the humor. Check out the original’s trailer below.

Do you think Marshall is a good fit?
