In demand following his lead turn in Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained last year, Jamie Foxx will be seen in back-to-back summer films with White House Down and next year’s The Amazing Spider-Man. It seems as though Sony Pictures wants to continue their relationship with the Oscar-winning actor, as he’s just landed his next major project at the studio.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Foxx is in talks for the upcoming Annie remake, which already has Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis set to lead. If signed, Foxx will be playing a new take on the Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks character who takes in the orphan, instead called Benjamin Sparks. Produced by Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay-Z, the film is directed by Easy A‘s Will Gluck.

Coming from initial drafts by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna, the film will be drawing on both the hit Broadway musical and the original comic strips, and we can expect a few new tracks from Jay-Z. Production kicks off this fall for a Christmas Day 2014 release and we can expect additional casting soon.

Are you looking forward to seeing Foxx in the Warbucks role?
