Coming up on a 30th anniversary, a theatrical adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s hit sci-fi novel Ender’s Game has been on Hollywood’s mind for quite some time. Oft-considered an unadaptable novel (not unlike this fall’s Cloud Atlas) due to some of its battle mechanics and other sci-fi elements, production finally went ahead last year under the guidance of director Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and today our first look at its two main stars have arrived.

Above, thanks to EW, one can see Harrison Ford as Colonel Graff, who is initially rough towards Ender (played by Hugo‘s Asa Butterfield), before eventually becoming a mentor to the brilliant child. As a huge fan of the novel, I’m curious how the aforementioned zero-gravity space fights come into play, but hopefully Hood can bounce back from his last failed blockbuster effort to bring something new to the table. The strong ensemble also includes Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley and Viola Davis, and we’ll hopefully get a teaser for this one soon.

Ender’s Game arrives on November 1st, 2013.

What do you think of the first look?
