After the dreadfully dull and muddled Thor sequel, we’re hoping Marvel turns things around with their upcoming slate and it’s looking promising. In a little over a month, a follow-up to one of our favorites from the universe, Captain America, will debut, and this summer will see the release of what’s easily the most outside-the-box feature from the studio; James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy features Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista, as well as Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper as you’ve never seen them before, and today brings a trio of new stills.

Ahead of the trailer tomorrow night (premiering Jimmy Kimmel Live at 11:35 PM EST), USA Today has dropped the images, along with a few quotes. While one can see the synopsis below, Pratt, who plays lead Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, says, “There’s a whole lot to this movie — it’s not a stage play. You couldn’t make Guardians of the Galaxy the play and put it on Broadway. It really wouldn’t work.”

With the film being a mix of drama, romance and humor, he adds that audiences “know what to expect at every turn. So that’s why it’s important now to do a comic-book movie that no one’s ever seen before.” Hopefully that’ll be the case, and we’re looking forward to the talented Pratt becoming an top-tier star in this project, as well as Jurassic World, so check out the images above and below and return tomorrow for the trailer debut.

Update: Check out the first footage below.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the blanace. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1st.
