Could the world’s most talented and handsome ex-special operative finally be back in business? Released in 2010, the Will Forte-led SNL feature film MacGruber was one of the year’s biggest bombs, failing to reach its budget of $10 million at the worldwide box office. But since it’s release, some (smart) audiences have come around on Jorma Taccone‘s hilarious piece of work and have been clamoring for a sequel.
Last summer we got the initial news that there was a possibility this could be happening, but then our dreams were quickly dashed by the stars themselves. As another year rolls around, it looks things have changed, according to a new interview with Forte over at Entertainment Weekly. “We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure,” he says. “Whether we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of MacGruber 2.”
While that last portion seemed like he could simply be kidding again, we’ll take a sequel any which way it arrives. He even adds that Taccone “had the idea to do a Kickstarter like two years ago. He kept saying ‘We should do a Kickstarter’ and we were like ‘Yeah, maybe at some point.’ He’s always ahead of the curve. That’s the lesson you learn — always listen to Jorma.”
Even it takes some time to see this character return, we will be getting much more of Forte throughout the year. His dramatic debut, Run & Jump, premieres at Tribeca this month (see the trailer here) and he’ll be leading Alexander Payne‘s black-and-white drama Nebraska, set for the end of 2013.
Do you think MacGruber 2 could be a reality?
